Senate Narrowly Blocks UN Small Arms Treaty

I received this email from a friend.

For years the UN has been trying to get the US to support its Small Arms Treaty.  The stated purpose of the treaty is to cut down on international arms trafficking to help prevent war, rebellion, etc. What isn't widely known is that the treaty would require all signatory nations to force its citizens to register their firearms, restrict the types of firearms that could be owned, and limit sales of ammunition, etc.

I don't understand why we would want the United Nations to dictate what laws we are subject to. Bear in mind that the vast majority of the countries in the United Nations are led by oppressive regimes that are no friend to the United States.  Like too many people, they are jealous of the success of others and, instead of improving their own situation and gaining success, they seek to bring them down to their level. They use socialism as a means to keep the masses quiet--passing out pennies in the form of government aid while wasting millions on lavish homes, vacations, parties, etc...

(I think it was Churchill that said that Socialism allows everyone to share in common misery.)

All but 2 of the 46 Senators listed below that support the UN Small Arms Treaty are Democrats. The other two are Independents, who, contrary to their stated position, tend to vote in lockstep with the Democrats.

Note that Harry Reid, who has been repeatedly re-elected in Nevada due in large measure to his support of the 2nd Amendment, has "flip-flopped" and supported the UN agenda.

Max Baucus of conservative Montana also supports the UN Treaty.

To their credit, some Democrats sided with Republicans in suporting the measure to oppose allowing the UN to dictate how we govern ourselves.

I encourage those of you who are "represented" by one of the Senators listed below to contact them and express your displeasure with their vote.

Over the weekend, we came four votes away from the United States Senate giving our Constitutional rights over to the United Nations. In a 53-46 vote, the senate narrowly passed a measure that will stop the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.
The Statement of Purpose from the bill read:
To uphold Second Amendment rights and prevent the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.
The U.N. Small Arms Treaty, which has been championed by the Obama Administration, would have effectively placed a global ban on the import and export of small firearms. The ban would have affected all private gun owners in the U.S., and had language that would have implemented an international gun registry on all private guns and ammo.
Astonishingly, 46 of our United States Senators were willing to give away our Constitutional rights to a foreign power.
Here are the 46 senators that voted to give your rights to the U.N.
Baldwin (D-WI)
Baucus (D-MT)
Bennet (D-CO)
Blumenthal (D-CT)
