I Phoned My Hundred-year-old Self--A Cautionary Tale

Some of you may have already seen this in an email.  If so, please pass forward my blogspot URL to others so they can read as well...

Don Milne has a Conservative blogspot called "The Fiddling Ant".

He has written a satirical article about the possible (likely??!!) social conditions in the world 50 years from now.  It's very well done.  With the introduction of "Common Core" curriculum in many schools, and the increased Liberalization of society, it isn't that far from reality. I really encourage you to go to the link and read it...

 =========================================

I received this from an associate... some interesting reading.

1. Americans spend $36,000,000 (Thirty-six Million Dollars) at Wal-Mart
  Every hour of every day.

2. This works out to $20,928 profit every minute!

3. Wal-Mart will sell more from January 1 to St. Patrick's Day (March
17th) than Target sells all year.

4. Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot + Kroger + Target +Sears + Costco

K-Mart combined.

5. Wal-Mart employs 1.6 million people, is the world's largest private
employer, and most speak English.

6. Wal-Mart is the largest company in the history of the world.

7. Wal-Mart now sells more food than Kroger and Safeway combined, and
keep in mind they did this in only fifteen years.

8. During this same period, 31 big supermarket chains sought
bankruptcy.

9. Wal-Mart now sells more food than any other store in the world.

10. Wal-Mart has approx 3,900 stores in the USA of which 1,906 are
Super Centers; this is 1,000 more than it had five years ago.

11. This year 7.2 billion different purchasing experiences will occur
at Wal-Mart stores. (Earth's population is approximately 6.5 Billion.)

12. 90% of all Americans live within fifteen miles of a Wal-Mart.

You may think that I am complaining, but I am really laying the ground
work for suggesting that MAYBE we should hire the guys who run Wal-Mart
to fix the economy.

In comparison:

1. The U.S. Postal Service was established in 1775. The government has had 234
years to get it right and it is broke.

2. Social Security was established in 1935. The government has had 74 years to
get it right and it is broke.

3. Fannie Mae was established in 1938. The government has had 71 years to get
it right and it is broke.

4. War on Poverty started in 1964. The government has had 45 years to get it
right; $1 trillion of our money is confiscated each year and transferred to
"the poor", yet too many poor consider this a right and demand more.

5. Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965. The government has had 44
years to get it right and they are broke.

6. Freddie Mac was established in 1970. The government has had 39 years to get
it right and it is broke.

7. The Department of Energy was created in 1977 by Jimmy Carter to lessen our
dependence on foreign oil. It has ballooned to 16,000 employees with a
budget of $24 billion a year and we import more oil than ever before.
The government has had 32 years to getit right and it is an abysmal failure.

The government has FAILED in every government "service" they have shoved down our
throats while overspending our tax dollars.

AND YET POLITICIANS WANT AMERICANS TO BELIEVE THEY CAN BE TRUSTED WITH A

 GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM??

High School Student Suspended After Wrestling Gun from Classmate

I have read this account in several sources.  Here is a synopsis:

A 16 year old Cypress Lake, Florida high school student wrestled a gun away from a classmate on a school bus after he threatened to kill another student on the bus. Numerous witnesses said that the gun-wielding teen pointed the gun directly at another teen and threatened to shoot him. The weapon, a .22 revolver, was loaded--only a trigger pull was needed to inflict another tragedy on school kids.

However, instead of being praised for his actions,  the school punished the hero of this incident by suspending him for three days... Why?????

"for being part of an “incident” where a weapon was present"

I don't know about you, but I think this "Zero Tolerance" attitude is being carried to extremes that defy reason. All too often it is abused by people who either have an agenda, or lack common sense.  Remember, these people are teachers and administrators in our schools and members of law-enforcement and the judiciary.

It reminds me of the alternate world in A Wrinkle in Time where all the kids were little automatons... coming out to play at the same instant, bouncing a ball in time with all the other kids for a set time, then going back inside.

Some other examples:

A grade school student was suspended for sexual harassment after he said he thought his teacher "was cute".

Another grade schooler was suspended after, while playing cowboys at recess, he made a "pistol" gesture with his hand and said "Bang, Bang!"

A teenager was not allowed to board a plane because he was wearing a T-shirt that declared "I am Not a Terrorist".

As so often happens, government efforts to help "keep us safe" have devolved into control that borders on insanity.

The God-given Right of Free Will, should never be surrendered for the false security of "Feeling Safe".

  1. Stories like this make me really wonder about the state of ignorance that exists in so many urban areas of our country. It's as if we are expected to sit there like sheep while people are killed and children are threatened, and expect the police to magically arrive in time to protect us. The only true police protection is the fear of imprisonment if the criminal is captured AFTER the crime is committed.

    1. Thomas Jefferson cautioned against people congregating in huge numbers in cities like the cities of Europe because they would soon have the problems of the Europeans...

      Makes sense to me.

    2. So did Desmond Morris in "The Human Zoo." We are living that book in these times, along with Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged." Government can never supplant reason or common sense. How many times has that been proven over the last several millenia?

    1. In the old time country stores, crackers were dispensed from large wooden barrels. The barrels were often used as a table for checkers, etc., so people tended to gather around them and discuss the issues of the day.
